The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, Mr. Abdellatif MIRAOUI, and the U.S. Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Puneet TALWAR, on behalf of the State Department’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, signed the Protocol amending and extending the Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement today at the headquarters of the Ministry.
The Protocol extends the Science and Technology Agreement signed on November 14, 2006, and entered into force on February 8, 2012, for a period of ten years. This renewed agreement will be in effect from July 27, 2023, until July 26, 2033. The extension aims to continue and further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of scientific and technological research.
During his speech, Mr. Abdellatif MIRAOUI specified that this agreement contributes to the two governments boosting partnerships between Moroccan universities and their American counterparts through sharing of expertise, promoting the mobility of students and researchers, with aims to establish up joint scientific research programs in important areas such as technology and innovation on climate change, renewable energies, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
For his part, Mr. Puneet TALWAR pointed out that the agreement opens up opportunities for Moroccan and American institutes and businesses to build connections between research communities and encourage the mobility of researchers in the fields of science and technology. It also helps in providing common protection of intellectual property rights and addressing shared challenges in the scientific and technological fields.
He reiterated the United States’ interest to fully implement the agreement and emphasized the importance of science and technology as drivers of economic growth and sustainable development for both Morocco and the United States.
